Day 1: Casablanca – Rabat – Fes
Upon arrival, our team will pick you up and you’ll travel to Fes via Rabat, Meknes and Volubilis. In Rabat, you’ll see the Hassan Tower and the Oudaya Kasbah. In Meknes, another significant imperial city in Morocco, known as the Ismaili capital of Morocco, you will see the famous gate Bab Mansour, the Sahrij Souani Bassin and the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum. After lunch, your journey continues to Volubilis, the Roman ruins, dating to 25BC before we continue to Fes via the foothills of the Rif Mountains in the late afternoon. Overnight in our Hotel/Riad. Bed and Breakfast.
Day 2: Exploring Fes
After breakfast in your Riad we’ll begin exploring the oldest city in Morocco, walking in its alleys and small streets. Our visit starts with visiting the Royal Palace gate, the Jewish headquarters and first Mellah ever built in Morocco during the 16th century. We’ll ensure that you visit all the key sites with cultural and historical interest including the famous Al Qaraouine University – the oldest in the region, the Tanneries, the Attarine museum and Moulay Idriss mausoleum. After lunch, you’ll visit the tiles cooperative and then experience a wonderful panoramic view over the whole Medina of Fes. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the new city “La Ville nouvelle” for a drink. Overnight in our Hotel/Riad
Day 3: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Ziz Valley – Merzouga: 425km
After breakfast in your Riad, you’ll leave Fes travelling towards Merzouga via Midlet and the Ziz valley. Today you’ll travel via the village of Ifrane, a beautiful mountain village, referred to as “the Switzerland of Morocco”. During this journey you’ll see glimpses of the Middle Atlas and Higher Atlas mountains stopping at Azrou, a Berber village in the middle of the famous cedar forest – the largest in Morocco – where you may well see some Barbary apes. Your journey continues to Midelt along the magnificent hills and mountains of the Atlas. We’ll be travelling through the fascinating Tiz Ntalghamt pass and the Ziz Gorge, taking in views of the High Atlas plateau, seeing how the scenery changes to reveal hints of the desert as you approach the city of Errachidia. This is our lunch stop and the opportunity for some Berber hospitality before we head off along the luxuriant Ziz Valley, stopping for panoramic views en-route through Erfoud and Rissani with our arrival in Merzouga in the late afternoon. You’ll be welcomed with a glass of mint tea before you check in to your Riad.
Day 4: Merzouga area and the Camel trek
After breakfast, you can start exploring the area before your camel trek and night at the desert camp. Today, you’ll visit the Gnawa people, originally slaves brought from Sudan, to experience their music and lifestyle. Not far away there’s the lake of Merzouga, with its bird populations and you may also visit the nomad wire house where many Berber handicrafts are priced lower than in the big cities. By the afternoon you’ll be anticipating your camel trek. Guided by an experienced camel man you’ll explore within the golden sand sea of Merzouga and dine in front of the tent where you’ll spend the night. (the camp in equipped with flush-toilets).
Day 5: Merzouga – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley
Your camel guide will wake you up early in the morning to watch what well may be the best sunrise of your life. Afterwards you’ll camel-trek back to the village of Merzouga appreciating the unique beauty of the spectacular Erg Chebbi sand dunes – changing with the light as the day progresses. After breakfast in the Riad, you’ll leave for Rissani, Tinghir and Todra gorges – the highest, narrowest gorges in Morocco. After lunch in the heart of the gorge we’ll drive through the Dades Valley, where you’ll see the majestic sand castles and the amazing rock formations known as “monkey toes”. Overnight accommodation will be in a fancy hotel overlooking the Dades valley. Overnight in our Hotel/Riad.
Day 6: Dades Gorge – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – Marrakech
After breakfast in the hotel we’ll drive through the Dades Valley towards Kalaat Mgouna and Ouarzazate. The route through Dades Valley is the way of the thousand Kasbahs – providing numerous opportunities to take some of your best photographic shots of the trip. We’ll stop at Kalaat Mgouna, “the rose city”, to purchase the rosewater, which will make your linen smell good a long time after your trip is over before continuing onto the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – the largest Kasbah in Morocco. The Kasbah was built by Et Hami El Glaoui, one of the last berebr chieftains during the 18th century. It’s now a house of many Glaoui people. Your journey will continue through the majestic Tizi n’tichka Pass (2260m) over the High Atlas Mountains, before arriving at your accommodation in Marrakech. Overnight in our Hotel/Riad.
Day 7: Exploring Marrakech
After breakfast in the Riad, you can start exploring Marrakech ” the red city of Morocco”. Your guide will ensure that you see the most important places of historical and cultural interest, including the Saadien tombs; the Palaces of El Bahia and El Badi as well as the Ben Youssef Coranique School. Lunch is at a restaurant near the square, then in the afternoon you’ll visit the gardens at Majorelle, Menara and the Koutoubia tower. After dinner you will have the opportunity to walk around the ‘Square Jemaa El Fna’ full with magicians, story tellers, snake charmers and food sellers. Overnight in our Hotel/Riad. Bed and Breakfast.
Day 8: Marrakech – Departure
After breakfast, you will travel to the airport for your departure flight.
